What Isaiah is about

Isaiah prophesied in Jerusalem in the eighth century BCE, in the shadow of Assyria. The book moves between rebuke of injustice and visions of a restored world, including swords beaten into plowshares. From chapter 40 on it turns to comfort and the return from exile. More haftarot are taken from Isaiah than from any other book.

Opening verse

חֲזוֹן יְשַׁעְיָהוּ בֶן־אָמוֹץ אֲשֶׁר חָזָה עַל־יְהוּדָה וִירוּשָׁלִָם בִּימֵי עֻזִּיָּהוּ יוֹתָם אָחָז יְחִזְקִיָּהוּ מַלְכֵי יְהוּדָה׃

The Vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
