Parashat Emor

Priests may not become impure through contact with the dead except for close relatives, and the high priest not even then. They may not marry certain women, and a priest with a physical blemish may eat from the offerings but not serve at the altar. Offerings themselves must be without blemish, and an animal may not be slaughtered on the same day as its young. Then the calendar: Shabbat, Passover, the omer counted for seven weeks to Shavuot, the day of shofar blasts, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot with its four species. The lamp and the showbread are described, and the portion ends with a man who blasphemes in the camp and the law of measure for measure.
