Opening verse
וְהָיָה עֵקֶב תִּשְׁמְעוּן אֵת הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים הָאֵלֶּה וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם וַעֲשִׂיתֶם אֹתָם וְשָׁמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְךָ אֶת־הַבְּרִית וְאֶת־הַחֶסֶד אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע לַאֲבֹתֶיךָ׃
And it shall come to pass, because ye hearken to these ordinances, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep with thee the covenant and the mercy which He swore unto thy fathers,

Summary
If the people heed these laws, God will keep the covenant sworn to their ancestors and bless them in the land. Moses reminds them that the forty years of wilderness were a test, and that manna taught them that a person does not live by bread alone. He warns that when they grow prosperous they must not say "my own strength made me this wealth." He recalls the golden calf, the broken tablets and his forty days of prayer. What does God ask of you? To revere God, walk in God's ways, love and serve God with all your heart. The portion ends with the second paragraph of the Shema and the promise of a land watered by rain from heaven.
