What Job is about

Job asks why a good person suffers. A righteous man loses everything, his friends insist that he must have sinned, and he refuses to agree. At the end God answers him out of the whirlwind. Most of the book is poetry, some of the most difficult Hebrew in the Tanakh.

Opening verse

אִישׁ הָיָה בְאֶרֶץ־עוּץ אִיּוֹב שְׁמוֹ וְהָיָה הָאִישׁ הַהוּא תָּם וְיָשָׁר וִירֵא אֱלֹהִים וְסָר מֵרָע׃

THERE was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was whole-hearted and upright, and one that feared God, and shunned evil.
