What Zephaniah is about
Zephaniah prophesied in the days of King Josiah. He warns of a coming day of judgment on Judah and its neighbors, and ends with a song of joy over a humble remnant that is gathered home.
Opening verse
דְּבַר־יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר הָיָה אֶל־צְפַנְיָה בֶּן־כּוּשִׁי בֶן־גְּדַלְיָה בֶּן־אֲמַרְיָה בֶּן־חִזְקִיָּה בִּימֵי יֹאשִׁיָּהוּ בֶן־אָמוֹן מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה׃
The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
