What II Samuel is about

II Samuel is the story of David as king, first over Judah in Hebron and then over all Israel in Jerusalem. It records the promise of a lasting dynasty, the episode of Bathsheba and Uriah, the prophet Nathan's rebuke, and the rebellion of Absalom.

Opening verse

וַיְהִי אַחֲרֵי מוֹת שָׁאוּל וְדָוִד שָׁב מֵהַכּוֹת אֶת־הָעֲמָלֵק וַיֵּשֶׁב דָּוִד בְּצִקְלָג יָמִים שְׁנָיִם׃
