Summary
Jacob sleeps on the road to Haran and dreams of a ladder set on the earth with its top in heaven and angels going up and down. God renews the promise, and Jacob names the place Beit El. He meets Rachel at a well and works seven years for her, only to be given Leah on the wedding night. He works seven more years for Rachel. Eleven sons and a daughter are born to Leah, Rachel and their maids. Jacob outmaneuvers Laban over the speckled and spotted flocks, grows wealthy, and slips away with his family. Laban pursues him, and the two make a pact at Gal-ed.
